In Colorado, the term alimony is not used by the courts. Instead, the term ‘spousal maintenance’ is used. Maintenance is essentially an order which requires one spouse to make payments to the other spouse, after the divorce is finalized, for the purpose of support of that spouse. This is different from child support and is looked at separately by the court. If you are going through a divorce, you might be entitled to request spousal maintenance. You should not have to sacrifice everything just to attain a dissolution of marriage, there are laws in place to prevent that from happening and we will make those laws work for you.
